Putting Queensland First

James Baker is standing to represent Queensland in the Senate at the 2007 federal election.
He represents:

  • Experience;
  • Commitment
  • Strength
  • Ability
  • Tenacity
  • Humanity

“The political parties will tell you they have your best interests at heart, and then let you down for the ‘good of the team’”.
“Too many professional political operatives see themselves and their party as the same thing as the national interest.”
“I will always put the people of Queensland first.”

“If elected, I will put each vote to at least these two tests before voting in the Senate:

  • Is it good for Queensland?
  • Is it good for Australia?”

What James Baker stands for

James Baker takes a no-nonsense approach to politics.

He doesn’t have any time for politically correct solutions to the issues facing Australia.

If it needs to be said, James Baker isn’t afraid to say it.

Queensland First

James Baker will put Queensland first.

Too many politicians in Australia believe they owe their first allegiance to their political party.  This shows they have lost all perspective.

Australia’s political leaders owe their first allegiance to the people they represent.

James is standing for the Senate, and the Senate is the state’s house of parliament.  He will put Queensland first.

The National Interest

James Baker believes he also owes an allegiance to this great nation.

James pledges that he will put all votes through two basic tests: Is it good for Queensland, and is it good for Australia?

A conservative

James Baker is a conservative - unashamedly so.

He believes that the Australian economy and government are going well.  But that is only because of the strength of our people and the institutions they have devised.

James is not opposed to change or to progress, but there must be real benefit and it must not just be for the sake of the latest fad or trendy cause.

Family

James Baker is a family man.  His children are the reason he became involved in politics to begin with.  James was concerned about the assault on the great values and lifestyle he grew up with and wanted to make sure they were safeguarded for future generations. Se he became active in politics with the aim of having a say in Australia’s future direction and ensuring the nation isn’t held hostage to every whim of the liberal left.

Small business

James Baker believes that small business is the V8 under Australia’s bonnet. .Having operated a small business James knows the interests of small business must be protected against large and sometimes predatory economic mega-chains.

Security

James Baker believes that Australia lives at peace today because in the past we have shown we will stand up to international bullies and tyrants. This peace comes at a cost.  That cost is preparedness to defend our way of life and to stand up for those around the world who cannot defend themselves against oppressors.  This must be measured against what can be practically achieved, given international circumstances.

Australia should safeguard its own security, as well as helping where we can as part of broader coalitions; to help bring peace where something practical can be achieved.

James supported, and was part of, the action to overthrow Saddam Hussein.  He believes the War on Terror is a real war that our troops are fighting right now, and they deserve our full support. He also thinks the fight against Islamic extremism is one that must be confronted now, and not left for our children to deal with in some distant future. We cannot shirk our responsibilities.

Faith
James Baker has a strong personal faith.  He does not seek to impose his beliefs on others, but voters should know that his faith is a part of who he is.
