James Baker is a man of experience and conviction.
He will stand at the next election to represent Queensland in the Senate.
James has worked hard, rising from humble country beginnings to become a senior adviser to some of the highest profile government ministers in Australia.
He has spent time as a television journalist, working for the Prime Network, the ABC and the Ten Network.
James has been an adviser to Deputy Prime Ministers Tim Fischer and John Anderson, Foreign Minister Alexander Downer, and Trade Minister Mark Vaile. He also worked for former leader of the Queensland Opposition, Mike Horan.
As a government adviser, James has worked on some of the major issues of our time: from the Republic Referendum, to the Olympic Games, world trade negotiations around the world, peace negotiations in the Solomon Islands, and diplomatic and trade missions to North Korea, East Timor, the USA, China, and many other countries.
James joined the Army Reserve as a 19 year old private soldier. He was commissioned into the infantry corps and has served as an officer both full time and part time, most recently serving full time with the Headquarters of the 1st Division in Brisbane. He has also served in units and regiments around the country, including the Royal Queensland Regiment, Norforce and the Royal New South Wales Regiment.
He has served on operations in Somalia, The War on Terror and the Iraq War, and East Timor.
James has a degree in journalism from Charles Sturt University.
He is married to Louise, and has three young daughters.
